Charles, Prince of Wales, Royalty

Born: 14 November 1948
Birthplace: Buckingham Palace, London, England
Best Known As: The next King of England
Name at Birth: Charles Philip Arthur George Windsor

The eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles was made Prince of Wales in 1958 and is the heir to the British throne. He served as a pilot and commander in the Royal Navy from 1971-76, and in 1981 married Lady Diana Spencer in one of the century's grandest royal weddings. The match proved a bad one; the couple separated in 1992 and were divorced in 1996, the year before Diana's untimely death. The union produced "the heir and a spare," Prince William (born 1982) and Prince Henry (also called Harry, born 1984).

Charles has a special interest in architecture and has been an outspoken critic of some modern architecture in Britain... Since Diana's death Charles has been seen more frequently with his longtime companion, Camilla Parker-Bowles. In February of 2005 he announced his plan to marry Parker-Bowles in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle.
