Time to earn the job.  It all starts with a resume.  A resume is a one page document that tells the history of your work and experience. Your resume is key to getting a job-it is often the first impression that an employer will have of you and your skills. You will need a resume sooner than you think so now is a good time to start creating one.

Appearance and content are equally important in your resume. You should make sure to proofread and spell check and make sure that your resume looks good an represents you well.

To create this resume, use your word processing skills to layout a resume similar to one of the samples on the left.  Create your resume in Microsoft Word.

You have a choice for this assignment.

Write a resume for your dream job
Based on the job that you selected from the career test in part 1 create a resume. Be sure to state a clear objective since you know what job you are applying for. You can use any sample on the left as a starting point.

  • your contact information (name address, phone, email).

  • state an objective or job that you seek.

  • at least four previous jobs

  • clear, quality presentation and design.

  • at least one complete sentence per job.

  • limit your resume to one page.

Write an actual resume
If you don't know what job you are applying for then leave the "objective" section off of your resume.

  • your contact information (name address, phone, email).

  • state an objective or job that you seek.

  • include all previous experience. Be sure to include any jobs, volunteer experience, awards, club membership, sports played. Include everything - it can make a difference.

  • clear, quality presentation and design.

  • at least one complete sentence per job.

  • limit your resume to one page.

For either option, use the resume samples on the left as guides. Don't worry if you don't have a page full of jobs and activities.

When you have completed your resume proofread it and then print it out after you have made any corrections.
