Annual Budget

In this exercise you will open an existing spreadsheet in Excel and modify it as instructed below. Pay close attention to the location where text and numbers are to appear; if the instructions tell you to type your name in cell A1 then be sure that you do so.

Use formulas and functions as instructed. This assignment is worth 40 points. SAVE OFTEN.

1. Copy the "annual budget.xls" file to your I:\drive. I will tell you where to find the file.

2. Open the file in Excel.

3. Insert two blank rows at the top of the spreadsheet. Rows 1 and 2 will now be blank.

4. Insert one blank column to the far left of the spreadsheet. Column A will now be blank.

5. In cell A1 type your name and the words "Annual Budget".

6. In cells B2 through M2 type the months of the year starting with January.

7. Bold the months.

8. In cell N2 type the word "Total". Bold this word.

9. In cells A3 through A8 type the following row titles (one per cell): rent, utilities, food, entertainment, car, savings.

10. Leave row 9 blank. In cell A10 enter the word total.

11. Bold all words from cell A3 through A10.

12. Total each column using the Autosum button .The total should appear in row 10.

13. Total each row using the Autosum button .The total should appear in column N.

14. Total column N, using the Autosum button , so that the total appears in cell N10.

15. Change all numbers to show as currency with two decimal places (HINT: use Format Cell).

16. Change the spreadsheet's font to Arial 9 point.

17. Change the width of all columns to make sure that the longest word or number fits. HINT: Use Column, Autofit Selection. Adjust column A so that it is wide enough to fit the word "entertainment".

18. Create a "clustered column with a 3-D visual effect" graph as a new sheet that shows monthly expenses for:rent, utilities, food, entertainment, car, and savings. Each month should look like this-click here. HINT: select everything except for the totals and your name. Use "Monthly Expenses-(your name)" as the chart title.

19. Change the font size of the months in the above graph to Arial, 8 point font.

20. Create a "Exploded pie with 3-d visual effect" chart as a new sheet that shows total expenses for category. HINT: select only the data that you need by using the CTRL key and the mouse.
-title the pie graph "Overall Expenses-(your name)" and include your name in the title.
-remove the legend.
-show the following Data Labels: Category and Percentage.

21. Print the following:
a) your spreadsheet, in landscape orientation and showing gridlines, on one page.
b) your spreadsheet, showing formulas (use CTRL and `), in landscape orientation, showing gridlines, on one page (HINT: Use Fit to 1 page in page setup)..
c) your column chart on a separate sheet.
d) your pie chart on a separate sheet.
