Thesis and Outline Rewrite

Now that you have completed introductory research on your topic you may find that your thesis statement needs tweaking. As you work, take the comments that your colleagues and I gave you regarding your draft outline. You will stand up and share your thesis with the whole class. Be ready.

Complete the following:

1. Revise or rewrite your thesis statement. Your thesis statement must:
-be a statement and not a question
-make a claim that is defensible and arguable
-have a clear focus either in terms of subject or time period
-most importantly, your thesis should be of interest to you

2. Complete your outline using the following format:

I. Your thesis statement

A. supporting idea 1
B. supporting idea 2

II. topic sentence- write this out as a complete sentence

A. supporting idea 1
B. supporting idea 2

III. topic sentence- write this out as a complete sentence

A. supporting idea 1
B. supporting idea 2

You should have at least five paragraphs outlined not including your thesis statement and concluding paragraph. Be sure to include your conclusion.
